I'll tell you the story of Delphi, but you're probably not going to like it. First of all, there's a temporal paradox in it. Basically, the laws of physics say we shouldn't exist at all. The other problem is the story's kind of clipped. We don't understand how we can possibly exist and that creates problems, you see. But I'll tell it as well as I can.
First, there was the Nexus.
The Nexus (or rather, the former Nexus) was in danger. Years of Holistic Journeys and time-travel had weakened the fabric of the Nexus to the point where in 150 Nexus Cycles, the Nexus would fall dormant and the living Avatars would die.
We had no idea this was happening.
Then, a traveler appeared and told us. Her name was Bishop. She was a member of House Delphi. At the time, there was no House Delphi.
This confused us.
She explained that she was a time traveler, sent from 1,000 Cycles in our future to save as many Avatars as she could from annihilation.
Some of us stayed to live the last 150 Cycles. Some of us left the Nexus altogether. Most of us, I included, took her up on the offer. She opened a time portal.
We went in. When we crossed to the other side, we found ourselves 300 Cycles in our own future.
Things change in 300 Cycles.
The Nexus had died 150 Cycles ago and, in the space of the remaining time, had regenerated. Those who stayed were gone.
The physics of the Nexus had changed. We could no longer Holistic Journey. We could no longer travel in time inside of the Nexus. Territories were no longer Journeyworlds, but actual parts of the Nexus.
Houses changed.
Canterbury was no more. They became Citadel. Houses gained new Powers and lost old ones.
Many were not happy with this arrangement.
Stepping through the time portal accelerated the natural process of Nexal Amnesia reversal. I started getting my memory back. I was Godot at the time, or so I thought.
I remembered being Fleming.
I remembered being reprogrammed by Fleming to infiltrate Godot without my knowledge or permission.
I was not happy with that arrangement.
I denounced Fleming. I shook hands with Lovious and parted on good terms with Godot. I turned my Godot research facility I.I.G.A.D., the Internexal Institute for Godot Alcohol Development, over to my friend, Dr. Eddie Dean.
I was looking for a Delphi. Bishop to be precise.
I asked Bishop what Delphi was. She told me. It matched the rumors I'd heard. I asked how I could join.
An interview later, I wore the icon of Delphi.
Five Delphi gathered at that event. The only five, so far. Bishop, Canis Minor, Lady Shadow, Aidan Brand, and myself. We found a book in Banana University that predicted the course of events. We were destined to do what we were about to do. With a little work, we got a Territory.
The Delphi Cliffs were built. And on that day, the Delphi meditated in the temple we built.
We were rewarded with our first Power: Research.
Renaissance and Octagon were not happy with that arrangement. That used to be their job.
We began to study the Nexus itself.
Lovious was not happy with that arrangement. That used to be his job.
It was an interesting four days.
